Many of Jungle Jim's customers are unaware that there is a separate event center attached to the store. The Oscar Event Center uses their space for festivals, weddings, corporate events, and more. Within the Oscar Event Center is a dedicated kitchen staff who provide food for not only these events but catered, off-site events as well.
To help push the awareness of their catering business, I was to create a brochure that conveyed the options a customer could choose from.
My idea was to show not only the food options but photos of the real, fresh food picked straight from inside Jungle Jim's. I wanted to show some of the people who hand-prepare these meals and how unique the Oscar Event Center catering is compared to other catering companies, especially because there is - quite literally - a world a food to choose from downstairs inside Jungle Jim's itself.
Tribal Naturals Package Design
My style tends to be very colorful and lively, so when I was asked to create a logo, color scheme and package design for a new health product, I knew I was the right fit!
The new superfood that is all the rage: mushrooms. For real. Mushroom coffee. Mushroom complex. Mushroom mix. Mushroom this. Mushroom that. Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms.
To give this new product an appeal to those who are both familiar and unfamiliar with the powerhouse health benefits of mushrooms, I chose to focus on bright colors, bold text and cute illustrations.
Hey, don’t knock it until you try it!
Jungle Jim's Gift Card Redesign
The Jungle Jim's gift cards were in need of a design overhaul, and that's what they got. The Jungle is a very unique, exciting and wild place, so I wanted the gift cards to convey that feeling with colorful illustrations. The cards will be hitting shelves soon, and I think customers will be very excited to receive these as gifts.
Carnival Event Poster
Many people know of Carnival (spelled Carnaval in Portuguese), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is a huge festival that takes place before Lent every year. More than 200 people parade the streets each day during this event, and most wear elaborate, glitzy, colorful costumes to celebrate.
A traditional, large feathered headdress is what many people adorn themselves with as a part of their costume, thus why I chose to create one for the focal point of the poster.
Carnival is a time for fun, friendship, music, and dancing, and this event poster showcases the color, vibrancy, and uniqueness of the festival.
This poster ended up winning a bronze ADDY Hermes Award.
Wedding Invitation Set
I've found that throughout my experience I have enjoyed creating event invites as my favorite type of design project. There's something about picking out the feel of paper, letter-pressing, and gold or silver foil-stamping that makes me incredibly excited.
When I was approached to create this wedding invite suite, the bride-to-be knew exactly the type of style she was going for. Looking for an art-deco design, I decided that, based upon her requests, art deco with a twist would be perfect for her.
The final results looked great. It's thrilling to see a design come to life - from conceptualization to printed piece. I enjoyed every part of this project.
Jungle Jim's Breath Mints
Jungle Jim's has a great brand going on for them. The store is very much a jungle, as is the branding. Thus, "Gorilla Breath" mints would be very fitting for the company.
This two-person group project took about a year to come to fruition, but was one of the most unique projects I've worked on thus far. Working with a printer to correctly emboss each tin and giving final-say to order 3000 units when the design was perfected gave me the experience to accomplish more package design projects that will arise.
I've learned that package design is another passion of mine, and I look forward to more package design projects that will come my way.
Bubble Bath Packaging
Who doesn't love a relaxing bubble bath? Don't knock it unless you've tried it! I personally love the smell of citrus, so I thought orange citrus and pink grapefruit fragrances would be the perfect combination of aromas to relax to.
Focusing on different typefaces and creating the brand called "Repose" (meaning: a state of rest, sleep, or tranquility, for those unaware), I thought this design would "pop" off the shelves compared to other bubble baths brands.
Thjs package design won an award from GDUSA magazine and was featured in a special GDUSA issue.
Cincinnati CityBeat "Green Issue"
CityBeat Cincinnati is a popular local magazine that prints every week. I was told last minute that there was an open spot to feature a Jungle Jim's ad in their Green Issue.
Jungle Jim's had the largest Organic and Natural Foods departments in the Midwest, so I thought a photographic ad would be the most ideal choice to catch someone's eye. I worked on the ad for about 6 hours from start to finish - gathered products, found an area to photograph in, set up the shot to perfectly fit the size the ad should be, gathered approvals from all managers in charge and sent it to be printed.
The final ad turned out to be beautiful, and I had a lot of fun in during the process as well.
Doubleday's Responsive Website
Doubleday's is a restaurant in Centerville, Ohio. Very much a family and sports bar type of restaurant, I wanted to create a website that better fit their brand.
The food is traditional, American food - burgers, wings, salads, etc., so I thought a website with beautiful black and white photography could showcase more of the experience than the food itself. The website is meant to be simple, but shares a good message. It's not just about the food; it's also about the people you share the experience with.
This website design won an award from GDUSA magazine and was featured in a special GDUSA issue.
Just a few examples of some fun illustrations I've worked on at both work and as personal fun projects.
